Overview
In the 3rd webcast of our series we focus on the economic impact of COVID-19 and the country’s downgrade to junk status. We will consider the impact locally on our economy, employment, various industries, consumer demand and forecasts for the foreseeable future. We will then consider the impact globally and the ramifications for South Africa. In the second session our investment expert will focus on the impact on the individual, specifically impact on pension funds, mortgages, property market share portfolios. He will then give advice on what people should do to better manage their personal finances as well as opportunities available when the economy starts to grow.

About our presenters
Annabel Bishop is the Chief Economist for Investec Bank Limited South Africa. She joined Investec in 2001, and has worked in the macroeconomic, risk, financial market and econometric, among other, fields for around 25 years.
Annabel is the holder of the Sake/Beeld Economist of the Year title for 2010 and has won numerous monthly Reuters Econometer awards, and various Focus Economics (Economic Forecasts from the World’s Leading Economists) categories for correctly forecasting a range of economic variables. She has authored a wide range of in-house and external articles, published both abroad and in South Africa. She has also guest lectured at Gibbs, the University of Pretoria, Wits, UJ and other academic institutions, and has presented at various national and international conferences.
Chris is the Chief Investment Strategist at Investec Wealth & Investment. He sits on a global committee that comes up with a risk score for investing over the following 12-18 months. The local asset allocation committee, which he heads, then use that risk score combined with SA specific factors to some up with a SA risk score and recommended asset allocation. Chris also provides research input to both committees covering domestic macro factors and linkages with financial markets.
