Overview
Join the final day of the SAICA Spring Conference as we get advice from a business broker looking at what business acquisitions and sales are, post COVID. We get into detailed analysis of what business entrepreneurs should be buying or selling as a result of the “New Normal.” We also get an update on the audit implication on UIF Ters, the proposed amendments to the Companies Act, a COVID impact on your practice and the impact of COVID on ethics and ethical behavior.

About the presenters:
Bronwen Barnard – Director: Business for Sale
After completing her studies, she joined the Aldes Business Brokers Group at their Head Office in Pretoria as Business Development Manager. Daily management of the business, training, yearly budget planning, marketing activities, yearly statistics, and sales reports all formed part of her duties. She played an integral part in implementing their in-house business broking system, including the development of business valuation models and new websites.
Bronwen achieved great success in selling a diverse range of businesses, including assisting Franchisors in finding suitable franchisees for their new and existing businesses. In 2019 she was among the Top 10 selling brokers, as well as the Number 1 female broker within the Aldes group.
Early in 2020 Bronwen took over the operations at Business for Sale – an advertising platform and innovative online business broking system. This platform was created by an industry expert for business owners, franchisors, and business brokers to generate enquiries and turn them into successful sales.
As a qualified and registered business broker for the past 7 years, Bronwen has gained ample experience and knowledge about the industry. She knows the unique challenges and requirements when buying or selling a business. Business For Sale addresses these challenges in the industry in a unique and accessible manner for all users of the platform.
The Business For Sale platform allows users to create market-related valuations and provide buyers and sellers with realistic and accurate information. Users can also compile professional and beautifully crafted documents, like financial reports and feedback reports regarding marketing activities on their business listings. It’s also a complete CRM system – making the management and admin involved in selling a business effortless.
Bronwen is an ambitious, professional, and driven individual. Her focus and vision for Business for Sale is to enable other to achieve the same success in a very lucrative business broking industry by utilising the online platform.

Juanita Steenekamp, CA(SA) Project Director: Governance and Non-IFRS Reporting (SAICA)
Juanita Steenekamp CA(SA) is responsible for Governance and Non-IFRS Reporting advice and services to SAICA members. Part of Steenekamps’ portfolio includes dealing with various legislation, and mostly the Companies and Close Corporations Acts. She provides guidance and information to SAICA members and coordinates submissions to the DTI and other state entities.
Further, her responsibilities include that of providing a secretarial function to the Legal Compliance Committee and the eXtensible Business Reporting Language (South Africa) board and working group.
Steenekamp was part of the group which compiled the SAICA Companies Act guide. Prior to joining SAICA Juanita worked for Eskom, where, after completing her articles, she was employed as a financial advisor in the financial reporting department.
Jeanne Viljoen – Project Director: Practices (SAICA)
Jeanne was appointed as Project Director for Practices in January 2016. Her role is to meet the needs of SAICA’s members in practice, with specific reference to Small and Medium Practices (SMPs). This includes liaising with government stakeholders, assistance with guidance and technical, operational, and practice management queries, and liaising with member to better understand their needs, challenges and opportunities, and to tailor solutions accordingly.
She is a member of the South African Institute of Chartered Accountants (CA(SA)) and the Independent Regulatory Board of Auditors (IRBA). She earned her Bachelor in Commerce (Law) at the University of the Free State and completed her articles at Moores Rowland Bloemfontein.
Jeanne has gained extensive experience through senior accountant and management roles for a variety of companies and accounting / auditing firms. Before joining SAICA she owned her own small accounting practice in Pretoria.
